Fattest Little Rex

We recently had a litter of Rex have one surviving kit. He is so fat the kids call him Rhino. So cute and so healthy. He's just starting to wander about, despite having pudgy little legs, LOL...gotta go get him to cuddle now...

He loves to cuddle and has just snuggled into my cardigan. Can you believe Summer is starting to cool off?

More with Honey

The bees are working hard at fighting the wasps right now and all of my hives have managed to put up stores for the winter and continue to stockpile the honey. We're feeding right now due to the low nectar flow and they are just sucking it back at an alarming rate in some colonies. What am I going to do with all that honey? Well, I'll be making some wonderful cosmetics and eating quite a bit of it as well of course!

Here is a lovely lip licker balm for those of you who love honey....

Honey Lick Gloss

5 ml  honey
10 ml jojoba
20 ml fractionated coconut oil (liquid)

Mix together well. Add to a roller ball container. Shake before using. Adding a few silver balls of shot help to mix it easily.

Using Color in Cosmetics

Recently I've been asked about what to use for coloring soap and cosmetics. Here is a simple way to understand the lingo of colorant application...

Colorant: Extensively used in cosmetic preparations most notably the food colors. FD&C means it can be used in food, drug or cosmetic applications. D&C before a color means it can only be used as a drug or cosmetic colorant. Avoid the use of toxic colorants not associated with the food and drug notation. I prefer to use natural ingredients such as cinnamon, coffee, turmeric and other spices as a colorant. Some clays and even chlorophyll are also used as colorant in my soap and cosmetic preparations.

Beautiful Spring Eggs

My ducks and chickens have been laying so many eggs! Check out the beautiful colors...

The birds are definitely in sync with Spring. Our Muscovy hen has even built herself a cozy nest and may be expecting baby ducklings soon. She tried in the Winter but had no success. Here she is cozy in the duck house...

Our chickens however managed to hatch one of her Winter eggs and the beautiful result is Waffle...she's a beautiful little hen with a spot of black on her head. We just love our urban barnyard animals!

I found the best appetizer for using up our eggs from Healthy Nibbles and Bits... Guacamole Deviled Eggs...
